Lilith is all around good, and places more emphasis on the elemental system than the other characters. That said, you also have phasewalk and SMGs if you want to go in a different direction. Mordecai is really good if you can hit the very generous BL critboxes with your weapon of choice. I think it makes the game better. I generally put like three different kinds of SMGs + a sniper when I'm Mercenary. Something for any situation. Hellfire. Regular & Balanced SMG. Double Anarchy. Sniper Rifle.
